Unknown Bobby Fischer Photo

We were just digging through tons of archives, here in Chess Informant, and something interesting came out.

It is one unknown Bobby Fischer's photo, that was taken, according to notes at the back of the photo, in 1968. The place is Vinkovci, then Yugoslavia, now Croatia. The other evidence detail about the place is registration plate on the car VK=Vinkovci, back then. I have no idea who could be the man on the right side, walking together with Bobby. Any suggestions?

What was important to me as member of Chess Informant crew is that Bobby is holding bunch of Chess Informant books. Yep, the series started few years before, in 1966!

Finally, the legend lives on, if we are talking about Chess Informant, see www.chessinformant.rs. Robert Fischer, the greatest, is no longer with us. We will never forget him!

Here is the photo:

Yeah that's a real mystery. Who is that behind him?

@Annabelle I am pretty sure you're right. It seems it is local chess player Andjelko Bilusic. This is only my impression by looking at these two photos.

@GorchFock Well, the photo is definetely not fake. C'mon, we extracted it from the archive unopened from 60s. Contrast is here probably because of scanned that we conducted.

You might be right - look at this pic of the three players

The person behind Fischer looks a bit 'funny' - hand busy picking up something? -looks a bit of a weird position. [hand not in sleeve - unless jacket just draped around him for some reason? ] - or otherwise a young person. [short adult?]

This photo could be a fake, by contrast license plate, the shadows of the people depicted are too closely. on my Black-Weis photos, it looks different. Bobby Fischer was in Croatia this time? Perhaps there is a solution? Sincerely GorchFock

    kazmedium,

What planet are you from? Fischer’s antics have been documented ad-nauseum in film and books to the point where even non-chesplayers know of his outbursts. No one here is apologizing for his behavior, we are simply admiring him for his prowess over the board.

Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on your way out.

The image behind Fischer, you can't see his hand at the end of his arm...maybe he is handless...

You are completely wrong, I am not taking my anger out on anyone, I am stating that this man (Fischer) should not be admired at all.  It is the worshipping of "icons" like him that reinforce a lack of sportsmanship in chess, that lead to kicking under the tables and to a host of other behaviours that have no place in the game.  So what if he is exposed for what he really was even in a comedic manner?

I have never heard anyone speak of his ridiculous and innapropriate attitude during his matches.  These things are simply not talked of as if they are unrelated to chess (of course they are related, they happened during the world championship).  I say they need to be talked of, and people need to know that just because someone is great at chess it doesn't mean that they should be worshiped or emulated.  I say, if you are going to judge someone, judge them based on all the evidence, not only part of the evidence.

Please don't make me laugh, I have inner unrest? It is the ones who ignore the truth that have inner unrest (hint hint, this is you).

Oh and I'm supposed to be jealous? With all due respect to the dead, I don't envy dead people so I have no reason to envy Mr. Fischer.

Anyways, I will now say goodbye to every Fischer apologist in this thread and to everyone else, you can keep blindly defending Fischer and doing a disservice to the chess community.

Fischer greatness is emphasized by not only the people who loved him for his chess, but also by the jealous ill wishers such as kazmodan who you would think would move on to the next fixation for his inner unrest.  I hate the fact that I can't and never will be able to play like Fischer or magnus or probably even most of you, but I dont' take it out on you to try to ease my feelings of short coming.

I completely disagree with what you write, you just don't like my opinion and act as if you know me, have a nice day and now you can go back to talking to yourself Laughing

People who go on ranting like you did are always funny. Your beavior here is no different than Fischer's. The only difference is that his "shortcomings" were carried out on a grander stage.

I already did tell people what I think, unlike other people that praised Bobby, I dished out the straight goods Cool  Why aren't you sticking your tongue out at them?  They also did not answer the question posed by this article.  You wouldn't expect someone like Bobby Fischer to not generate any controversy right?  Especially when people blindly praise him.
