One of our readers sent us a short article with a specially composed chess puzzle where the pieces on the diagram present the year 2014. The puzzle wasn't published before and so it is something new and special for our readers. Thanks Diyan!

cabdan1, has the fewest moves, possible, even if knight x bishop, knight x knight, checkmates 2 moves.

Good comments.  Some of the other lines are part of why I found this difficult.  I think it spins of how unlikely one feels declining the juicy queen would be in a normal game.  That and the thought that the win is bagged, so let's try to do it with the fewest moves...

Be4, Bd5. 2 moves only either way black moves, if black moves knight, check, knight x knight, checkmate. Except if bishop e4, knight x knight, the  extra moves are required, Be4, K x K, Bd5, Kgd6, Bb4. Another better Bb4, Re7

You assume that after 1.Bf4, black will invariably play 1. ...Rxh1. But that is not true, for if Black plays 1. ...Nxb7, the checkmate is not that quick.
