phpnKmMcQ.jpegThe Chinese Individual Chess Championships are underway in in Xinghua, Jiangsu.  The competition takes place from 16-27 April and features 12 players in a single round-robin format.

Top seed is Wang Yue (2706 Elo, pictured), but the competition is missing some other top names this year, with Wang Hao and Ding Liren absent. The latter will be playing in the Alekhine Memorial shortly, while Wang Hao features in the Norway Chess tournament in May.

Former women's world champion Hou Yifan is once again playing in the main competition, rather than the separate women's event, which runs concurrently in the same format.

Also playing in the main is Wei Yi, the 13 year-old GM-elect!

The time control is 90 minutes for the whole game plus a 30 second increment. Games start at 14:30 local time (06:30 UTC). Live games are broadcast here.

With all respect Wang Hue's play from move 35-42 looked very bad. Instead 35.Rd1 should easily draw for White.

What have you been smoking Vlodior? Men outsprint women. Fast twitch muscle has nothing to do with intellectual ability anyway.

Sure women can play with the men, Judit Polgar and Hou Yifan do. But is there any point putting 2500 - 2600 players in with the likes of carlsen, Aronian and Kramnik?
There are separate women's competitions so women can win prizes. If a woman is good enough like Polgar then she can compete with top men, otherwise what's the point?

Wow, one of the trickiest knights I've ever seen in the Qun Ma end game. Very nice game!

Well, endgame in first match is very interesting, white had all chances to win. In women match everything was quite logical. When can women play with men together? is there any huge difference between their brains? Even short run females can run faster then men... so the brain speed is the same, maybe even more!

In the first game (Wang vs. Ma) why not 70. Rxb4?

    Edit: Got it, 70...Nxb4 71. a7 Nc6+
