Our final article on the Classic Bishop Sacrifice is simple and too the point: it features nothing but puzzles, which will allow you to see if you fully gasped the concepts we explored in Parts 1 – 3.
nice puzzles thanks
great puzzles and article overall
Thank you, IM Silman. You helped me win this game.
great series of articles. Book in the works? :)
I am wondering whether the quite common h6 really inoculates against this type of attack? It takes g5 from the knight, but is there still a way in?
Mr. Easegame00 asked: "puzzle 2, move 22 why not attack the queen with knight with a discovered attack on the king, i just dont get it."
You're forgetting that black's Queen is attacked. Thus 1...Nxe3+ 2.fxg5 Nxd1 3.Rxd1 wins for White, who is suddenly two pieces ahead.
I solved the first one and now I need a rest. =)
Problems 2 and 5 were NOT repeats! Yes, it was from the same game, but one featured the actual game, and one a possible continuation. One featured (after ...Ng4+) Kg3, and the other features Kg1. Thus, totally different puzzles.
There are several ways to avoid the sacrifice. Several being h3 h6, g3 g6, ng6 ng3, f4 f5, and bg3 bg6.
@ silman----wasn't #2 repeated?
Hello Mr. Silman,
I just wanted to say thank you for these excellent instructive articles. I also wanted to show the following game I have just completed:
Having this Bishop Sacrifice series to refer to allowed me to play the above game with good accuracy, and I now know that if I encounter such positions OTB, I will be confident with them.
One question though - is it wise to actively strive for such positions?
Really no link....I am an old woman, and have to scour web page for link! Minutes, now! At my age, not enough time left to spend the minutes! Bad person who make the page!
Now where parts 1 to 3? No link!
Lyubov always had first move correct! In every puzel!
IM Silman, Is playing h6(h3) a good idea to prevent such a sacrifice from occuring?Or, are there better ways?
Excellent... I like that the black was not switched as you can see the opponents thinking
Quality puzzles. Black was a little difficult playing upside down.
